Research Institute of Soft Matter and Biomimetics of Xiamen University (Hereinafter referred to as the Institute) mainly focuses on the studies of the soft material and related function. By utilizing biomimetics and integrating such advanced technology including physics, chemistry, biology and nano-technology, the institute concentrates on the forming mechanism of the materials and revealing the relationship between the structure and its performance. Through material design and synthesis, the institute develops the realization of materials’ multifunctional, intelligent and super-performance.

The Institute covers the following five research fields: (1) bio functional materials; (2) bio molecular aggregation and assembly; (3) soft materials and low-dimension functional materials; (4) biomedical functional materials; (5) organic, inorganic and hybrid materials.

The innovation platform of the institute aims to build domestic and foreign research, the frontier and leading basic research, the development of bionic technology, create change the future life of the people in intelligence, new materials and advanced processing technology, new technology industrialization.
