With a total investment of 140 million yuan, Shengnuo Research Institute of Non-ferrous Metal Materials of Xiamen University (Hereinafter referred to as the Institute) is an industry-university-research collaboration platform co-founded by Xiamen University, Longyan Shengnuo Copper Limited Liability Company and Shanghang County Government. The laboratory building of the Institute, with an investment of 20 million yuan, covers an area of 5,000 square meters. The institute possesses research facilities valued more than 20 million yuan, in addition, 50 million yuan are spent in building the pilot test base. The operation and project expenditure exceeds 100 million yuan.

The Institute mainly focuses on: (1) R&D of non-ferrous metal materials and related products; (2) undertaking projects assigned by national and local enterprises in such field regarding technical transformation, industrial upgrading and product R&D; (3) cultivating and training high-level talents in the field of non-ferrous metal materials.

The objectives of the institute includes: building a leading R&D team in the field of non-ferrous metals. the Institute aims to play a leading role domestically and reach international advanced standards in 1 or 2 fields in 5 years; and achieving a multifunctional international base for basic research, technological development, industry incubation and talents cultivation in 10 years.
